On September 14, 2001 Andrew and I found out we were expecting our 3rd baby. We had done this twice before and I was not that concerned or anxious to get to the Dr. right away. We were very excited even though we had not actually "tried" to conceive. We had also decided we would keep it a secret as long as possible! :) Love to keep a good secret! On October 31st we had our first ultrasound and discovered that our baby had markers for a chromosomal disorder as well as tachycardia. Devastated at hearing this we shed lots of tears and I experienced a lot of worry, anger, and fear at what lied ahead of us. I prayed many times that if the Lord was going to give us a baby that would not live that He would just go ahead and take it from us right then. On November 23rd, I began spotting and cramping but since it was Thanksgiving weekend we waited til the following Monday to go to the Dr. where we found out that there was no heart beat and our baby was resting safely in the arms of Je...

The Crowd...or The Cross?

The crowd says follow us. The Cross says follow ME. The crowd says rely on yourself. The Cross says rely on ME. The crowd says earn your worth. The Cross says I AM your worth. The crowd says bear your burdens. The Cross says nail them to ME. The crowd says be happy. The Cross says be HOLY. The crowd says if it feels good, do it. The Cross says for loves' sake ENDURE it. The crowd says honor yourself. The Cross says HUMBLE yourself. The crowd says do. The Cross says DONE. Too many times we get caught up in what the world tells us to do. We are constantly bombarded with words and images that drive us away from our eternal perspective. It's easy to ignore the soft whisper of Christ's words when the world is telling us to do what feels good or what feels right. The world tells us do, do, do. If the gospel of Jesus Christs were summed up to one word, it would be DONE. So what will it be The crowd...or The Cross?

  My first wife Wendy was the most amazing person I ever knew. She was kind, loving, faithful, and strong. She loved her family and she loved God so much. She was such a better person than me. She was diagnosed with glioblastoma brain cancer coming up on 8 years ago. It was a devastating news for us. Glioblastoma is a very aggressive and fast-growing tumor that starts from the star-shaped cells in the brain called astrocytes. It can invade and destroy healthy brain tissue and cause many symptoms such as headaches, nausea, seizures, and personality changes. We tried everything we could to fight this disease. She had surgery to remove as much of the tumor as possible, but it was impossible to get rid of it completely. She had radiation therapy and chemotherapy to kill the remaining cancer cells, but they were very resistant to treatment. She also tried an experimental therapy at Duke University using the polio virus injected into the tumor site, but nothing seemed to work. She never ...
